Alfred McAlpine looks
favourite to win the to build the Final link on
the Leeds inner ring road. Known as LIRR7 (Leeds Inner Ring Road stage 7)
the project will involve extending the inner ring road from just south of
the river Aire at South Accommodation Rd to Junction 4 M621.
Construction work on the
project is expected to start March 2006 and expected to last approximately
18 months. A major point in the contract will involve the construction of a
500m stretch of elevated road which will cross Hunslet Rd.
The new road will help
relieve congestion in the Holbeck and Hunslet areas of the city. Leeds City
Council hope that this will pave the way for further public transport
improvements in the southern part of the city.
