Motorists are
being asked to prepare for delays on the A61 at South Accommodation Road
in south Leeds when work starts on the new Hunslet Viaduct.
The 500-metre section of road is part of the final stretch of the Inner
Leeds Ring Road which
will be carried above ground level on the viaduct between Hunslet Road and
the Richmond
Bridge.
Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction from next
Wednesday (30 August)
for up to two years while the work is carried out.
Councillor Andrew Carter, executive board member
for Development, said:
“This is one of the most significant road projects which has taken place in
the city and
together with East Leeds Link Road is the final piece in the city’s
strategic road
network.
“I hope that motorists will bear with us while this essential work takes
place on a new
piece of road which will make journeys across the city so much better for
hundreds of
thousands of people in the future.”
Delays are to be expected in the local area particularly during peak hours.
An alternative
route to avoid the area using the A639 Hunslet Road and the A653 Crown Point
Road/
Bridge to cross the River Aire will be signposted.
